Our Story
The Moment Everything Changed
As I write this it is now 2026.
Three years ago, in May of 2023, my life as I knew it was uprooted.
I woke up staring at a sky that wobbled and spun, surrounded by faces I couldn’t recognize. My ears were ringing. Everything felt distant and unreal. Moments later I was strapped to a gurney, staring up at the brightest lights in the ceiling of an ambulance as a man I had never seen stood over me asking questions I couldn’t understand.
I didn’t know where I was.
I didn’t know what was happening.
I couldn't see on one side. My body hurt. My head hurt more.
Later, when I was more coherent, I was told I had been in a motorcycle accident and sustained a severe traumatic brain injury along with nerve damage to my right eye.
I came home later that day a stranger.
I knew my name. I knew the faces of my family. But my life? It felt like trying to grab smoke.
Relearning Through Baking
Because of extreme sensitivity to light and sound, recovery didn’t look the way most people imagine. I couldn’t pass the time watching movies, reading books, or even working. I wasn’t cleared to drive anywhere. Most of my days were spent in dark rooms, confused and wrestling with the reality that I didn’t really know who I was or what I had been doing with my life before the accident.
My mother suggested I try baking.
It was something I apparently knew how to do before everything happened.
So I started.
And I still remember how incredible it felt realizing that the body can move from memory even when the mind feels disconnected. Hands measuring. Dough mixing. Motions that felt strangely familiar.
Over the next three years I dedicated myself to recovery and to remembering. I continued to bake. What started as simple batches quickly turned into an ocean of experiments. My family became unwilling taste testers as I began developing my own recipes and refining them again and again.
Eventually the people around me started saying the same thing:
“You should sell these.”
I resisted for a long time. I felt like I might be chasing someone else’s dream. A version of myself I couldn’t fully remember.
But one more push from someone important in my life finally convinced me to try.
The Beginning Of Blujays Cookies
In January 2026, I took the leap and applied to be a vendor at a night market in Oceanside hosted by Sounds by the Sea.
That night changed everything.
For the first time, I watched complete strangers experience something I had made. Kids with sparkling eyes. Couples sharing desserts and smiling together. People coming back for seconds.
And suddenly it clicked.
I have a skill.
Selling cookies and baked goods may now be my business, but what truly drives me is something deeper, creating small moments of joy and connection through something simple and comforting.
That’s what Blujays Cookies is really about.
Whether it’s your first cookie or your fiftieth, I hope every bite feels like something worth slowing down for.
